The Trilene Fishing Knot
The Trilene Knot is a strong reliable connection that resists slippage and premature failures.

The Trilene Knot is an all-purpose connection to be used in joining monofilament to swivels, snaps, hooks and artificial lures. The knot's unique design and ease of tying yield consistently strong, dependable connections while retaining 85-90% of the original line strength. The double wrap of mono through the eyelet provides a protective cushion for added safety.

1. Run the end of line through eye of hook or lure and double back through the eye a second time.

2. Loop around the standing part of line 5 or 6 times.

3. Thread the tag end back between the eye and the coils as shown.

4. Pull up tight and trim the tag end.

Find the shad and you will find that the stripers are not far away.

When fishing dirty or stained water it can be hard to present your bait in a manner that all fish in the area are seeing it, especially in winter when the fish are scattered in loose groups.

You can dip the tail of your shad or large minnow in a chartreuse dye that is manufactured for dipping soft plastics and make it more visible to fish at greater distances.

Interesting Striper Facts

Striped bass tolerate both salt and fresh water.
Striped bass live in the ocean but spawn in fresh water rivers.
Atlantic Ocean stripers have been transplanted successfully to the Pacific Ocean.
Stripers accidentally landlocked thrive in deep fresh water impoundments.
Hybrid striped bass, resulting from crossing striped bass with white bass, now inhabit many fresh water lakes.
In the Chesapeake Bay area Striped Bass are called Rockfish.
In the Spring stripers migrate north from deep waters off the Virginia and North Carolina coast to New England waters. In the Fall they migrate back down to the south.
Stripers mainly stay in the vicinity of the coastline.
Stripers swim fast, but not the fastest, so they don't always chase down prey like blue fish. However, they have large tails and can maneuver well, and they can swim with control in fast moving turbulent waters. Stripers prefer to ambush prey, that are stirred up and disoriented, by turbulent water.
Striped bass have a preferred temperature range of from 55° F to 68° F.
In the spring the striper bite is slow until the temperature reaches 50° F.
In the fall they can still be caught until the temperature falls below 44° F.
Stripers are most active in the fall and early spring.
Striper peak feeding times are the hour before sunrise and at dusk.
Striped bass don't have eyelids. When the sun comes up they will retreat to deeper water to avoid the bright light.
Striper fishing is mainly a nighttime activity in the warmer months.
Stripers will eat almost anything, but favorites are thread fin and the larger gizzard shad.
Older, large female stripers are called "Cows". Younger, smaller stripers are called schoolies or shorts.
Female striped bass grow larger than the males. If you catch a striped bass over 15 pounds it is probably a female.

Treb verses Single

Many regulated trout streams across the U.S., as well as Canadian lakes, allow "single-hook artificial lures only." Too many fishermen read that as "fly-fishing only" or drastically reduce their spinning rod options. Fish in these waters almost never see minnow- or crawfish-imitating plugs, and that becomes wonderfully obvious when you do use one.

In fact, in certain situations it's more effective to use a single hook instead of a treble even if there aren't any special regulations. Using a single hook reduces snags when working timber or densely weeded areas, making it easier to rip your bait through cover. A single hook also makes it easier to unhook fish and quickly release them.
